Wedding Ceremony of our beloved Buddy to Ola was held in the gardens of the Manor House, Oosterzee, on 31 October 2016 Simone Bastiaanse, General Manager of The George & Annie Starck Homes, gave some background as to how Buddy became part of The Starck Homes family. It was her dream to have a therapy dog for the benefit of the residents. It took some motivation but after Simone presented the facts and benefits of a therapy dog to the Management Committee and Trustees for approval, they gave the project their blessing.

Mrs Tucki Kitshoff who is also a member of the Management Committee knew about a family who had a male and female Golden Retriever pair that just had puppies. Simone contacted them and told them about the pet therapy project. The owners first paid the homes a visit to ensure that the puppy chosen by The George and Annie Starck Homes would become part of a caring and safe environment.

The chairman of Starck Homes at the time, Mr Roy Rogers, who is a dog lover, was so excited that he decided that he wanted to sponsor the purchase of Buddy.

The rest is history – Buddy is really a loving and caring dog with an uncanny intuition for the needs of humans.

Holtman Taute, Deputy General Manager, and his family fell in love with Buddy and decided that they also wanted a golden retriever. They acquired a female and named her Ola. When Buddy met Ola it was love at first sight.

As you know things in the animal kingdom work the other way around! They hit it off and are now parents to 10 little puppies – they are simply adorable – of course with a father like Buddy what do you expect!

Simone thanked our in house designer and seamstress Mrs Marie Taylor for Buddy, Ola and the puppies’ stunning wedding outfits. They all looked simply gorgeous. She also thanked our in-house catering team and parents of Buddy, Tielman and Netta Jordaan, for baking the beautiful wedding cakes. Holtman and his wife Estie brought in Ola and the 10 little puppies to the tune of , “Who let the dogs out, woof, woof woof, woof woof……….”.

Simone then introduced Judge Dr Doolittle who took care of the ceremony of the marriage between Buddy and Ola. Judge Dr Doolittle introduced himself as the son of Dr Doolittle and said that just like his father he too could speak to the animals. While Judge Dr Doolittle was presenting the ceremony Buddy and Ola looked lovingly into each other’s eyes while all 10 puppies were being cuddled by the guests present. Both puppies and residents enjoyed the interaction. Who wouldn’t love cuddling a joyous bundle of fur!!!

The following wise words were spoken by Judge Dr Doolittle “We now take this special moment for these two to toast their love, devotion and friendship to each other”.

When Dr Doolittle asked Buddy whether he took Ola as his wife he gave a loud joyous WOOF! When the question was posed to Ola she was very demure when answering yes.

Dr Doolittle continued: “May they never hunger for biscuits and may they always be blessed with love and joy. We now pronounce them man and wife. Buddy and Ola, you may now go ahead and lick and sniff each other!!!”

Shortly after the ceremony all 10 babies were extremely hungry and could not wait to nibble Ola for a drink of mother’s milk. They were cuddled some more and then put back into the temporary nursery set up in the lounge and promptly proceeded to fall fast asleep. They were all exhausted from the excitement of the wedding and attention which was showered on them by the guests.

A lovely cup of tea and wedding cake were enjoyed by everyone afterwards.
