Twenty nine residents from Starck Homes and Starckwood boarded the Combi’s for the long, not so long, trek to Stellenbosch. To our surprise and amazement this compact botanical garden is an absolute gem!!!
The Botanical Garden is located in the historical centre of Stellenbosch and is the oldest university botanical garden in South Africa. This compact Garden houses an enormous diversity of plants, both indigenous to South Africa and exotic. The Garden is open to the public and admission is free.
We saw plants that we had never seen before for instance some unique varieties of water lilies, a herb garden and a huge collection of the most beautiful bonsai trees. It was a relaxing morning spent in tranquil surroundings. Afterwards we were treated to tea and delicious scones fresh from the oven of the Katjiepiering restaurant.
We can obsolutely recommend this garden for a family outing or even for a relaxing cup of tea or light lunch with friends.
These are Victoria-water lillies – their huge leaves are covered underneath with thorns. Some residents sharing their amazement at these beautiful gardens.
